Some of My Puppetry Background
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you?
I began writing puppet scripts because I wanted to use them in our puppet ministry at church. My motivation is the joy I get when I see the kids enjoying the puppets.
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation.
We use puppets in our younger children's church(kindergarten) and in our older children's church (1st-4th grade).
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area?
I started doing puppets after the man who did puppets at our church left. I tried it one day and fell in love with it.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts?
My inspiration comes from everyday events. If the kids can't relate to the script, then they won't understand it.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry?
Just have fun! If you aren't enjoying it, then the kids aren't enjoying it.
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them?
My favorite puppet character is Redi. I call him my "alter ego". He is a high-strung puppet full of energy who sometimes lets his temper get in the way of his judgement.
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts?
Bible truth
Everyday story
Good characters
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet?
Escape from the puppet closet and go on Broadway :)
