Some of My Puppetry Background
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you?
I was involved with the childrens ministry of Calvary of Naperville IL. for about 10 years. For about 6 of those years I was involved in puppet ministry. Our age group was 4-7. I have done some puppet ministry work at my current church, Grace Pointe of Plainfield IL.
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation.
We have used puppets bi-weekly in skits that are kept fairly light and try to emphasize humor along with the message.
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area?
Several years ago we totally redid our childrens church. I suggested the puppets and voluntered to head that up.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts?
I start with the message, scripture and Bible story from our curriculum. I then try to come up with a couple of funny hooks related to it. Then try to stay consistant with the puppet characters that we have established.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry?
Find other people that are passionate about it. Get a few good puppets to start with. Develop good, fun characters with them. Practice the basics of movements (don't 'flip the lid', get the lip sync right, etc.). Then Pray, Practice and start writing.
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them?
Not answered yet.
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts?
Solid message, backed by scripture, and repeated, with humor cut in throughout.
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet?
Not answered yet.
